Flying to Alpes-Isère Airport (GNB)

Formerly known as Grenoble–Saint-Geoirs Airport, Alpes-Isère Airport (GNB) is an international airport located 40 km away from Grenoble.
Flights to Grenoble from the UK are seasonal, with companies offering significantly more service during the winter season. London’s Gatwick Airport and Stansted Airports both offer return flights. These routes are serviced primarily by British Airways, with some flights also offered by Ryanair. Most flights to Grenoble from the UK are direct flights.

On Arrival and Getting Around the Airport

Alpes-Isère Airport has three different terminals: Terminal D for departures, Terminal A for arrivals and Terminal B for business. Terminal D includes three boarding lounges, 26 check-in desks, a VIP lounge and a customs area. Most GNB return flights depart to cities in the British Isles, but they also include a few European destinations. Connected to Terminal D is Terminal A, which is divided into two arrival lounges: TA1 and TA2. The airport includes several amenities for passengers like ATMs, an information desk, lost and found, conference rooms, disability assistance, snack bars, a restaurant bar, a newsagent and a duty-free shop.

Getting to the City from Alpes-Isère Airport (GNB)

Alpes-Isère Airport offers several transport options to take you to Grenoble, which include shuttle, taxi and car hire. The Actibus Aeroport Express offers seasonal shuttle services into the city centre, also stopping at the Grenoble railway station along the way. Ben’s Bus offers a shuttle service to the city centre as well as many nearby French towns and ski resorts, and operates every weekend during the ski season. Taxis can be found outside the arrival terminal and are a convenient way to travel directly to your accommodation. If you prefer to drive yourself, there are car hire agencies you can book with, although some agencies such as Avis and Europcar are only available for the winter season.

Also referred to as the ‘Capital of the Alps’, Grenoble is best known as the gateway to winter skiing. There are various ski resorts surround the city, but skiing isn’t the only thing you can do in Grenoble. This French City is filled with history as seen in the vieille ville, or old town in English, where you’ll find the old Grenoble Cathedral, the Place aux Herbes and the Café La Table Ronde, one of the oldest cafes in France.
Grenoble also boasts some of the best museums in France and whatever your interest, you’re sure to find plenty to visit. From the Western artwork at the Musée de Grenoble to the interactive science exhibits in La Casemate, there is something for everyone. Stroll through the small but beautiful French gardens of the Jardin de Ville or check out the historic Fort de la Bastille in the Jardin des Dauphins. The fort can be reached by taking the Grenoble cable cars, more affectionately known as “les bulles” (“the bubbles”) in which you’ll soar above the city and get picture-perfect views to complete your visit.

Don't Forget Before you Fly

It is highly recommended that you exchange some money before travelling to Grenoble, as Alpes-Isère Airport does not have any currency exchange centres. If you forget to get your euro before travelling, there are ATMs in the main hall and near arrivals, as well as outside the airport if you need to take out money on arrival. British passport holders don’t need a visa to travel to any country in the EU – you can stay for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. You just need to make sure that your passport has at least six months validity left, on the day you travel. If you are staying for longer than three months, you will need to contact the French Embassy for more information.
