Cheap Holidays From Scotland
It used to be a given that if you wanted any chance of a cheap holiday from Scotland, you pretty much had to fly south for the best deals. Not any more. Glasgow and Edinburgh airports have grown hugely, with more and more flights that will take you directly to your destination. And more flights mean more good deals, of course.
That means a cheap holiday from Glasgow or Edinburgh can be a convenient one too, without the added hassle (and expense) of starting from some distant airport.
Edinburgh Airport, for example, has flights to over 150 destinations, and 60% of Scots live within one hour’s drive. Also, with good rail and bus connections (and trams to come), it’s not hard to see why so many locals are travelling from there.
So, where can you go on your cheap holiday from Edinburgh? Well, take your pick of some very attractive locations. How about the sun-kissed beaches, theme parks and natural attractions of Orlando? Or, if you prefer something a little more gritty, urban and exotic, with shopping and nightlife that is truly special, head east for bustling, hustling Bangkok.
Sun lovers looking for something closer to home can get to Spain’s sunny shores and islands, not forgetting the very good value-for-money Canaries, an all-year-round haven from Scottish winters.
If you really want to escape those short days and long dark nights, the Southern Hemisphere will be your saviour.
Cape Town, with its beautiful beaches, winelands and laidback atmosphere is an overnight flight away. Without any jetlag.
Keep heading south on your cheap holiday from Edinburgh, and the great open spaces and fascinating cities of Australia await when you touch down in Sydney. Swim with dolphins, learn to surf, have a Christmas barbie, welcome in the New Year with the firework show to top them all…..Australian holidays are truly ‘awesome’.
For Scots through in the west, Glasgow Airport, Scotland’s second busiest, is a good place to begin your cheap holiday. Traditionally the departure point for flights across the Atlantic, today the pleasures of New York are eight hours or so away via a number of scheduled carriers. Then, you can shop, eat, party, shop again, and live the Big Apple life around the clock. It’s often for less than you’d think, with a little planning, and taking advantage of the freebies on museums, galleries and other attractions.
Las Vegas is another possibility from Glasgow, a pleasurable assault on all the senses, with some more tranquil natural attractions like the mighty Grand Canyon nearby. Dubai is another destination that will dazzle, from its astounding buildings to its wonderful beaches, not to mention shopping that dwarves the run-of-the-mill malls back home.
