Johannesburg - South Africa
Home to a booming financial district, a major stock exchange, many Government offices and some of the tallest skyscrapers in Africa, Johannesburg is fast trying to shake off its image as a provincial, dusty capital. With a wealth of gleaming new attractions, it’s determined to lose its un-tourist friendly image too. It went some way to doing this when playing host to the World Cup, but there is still some way to go. Still, a visit to Johannesburg presents the tourist with a more rounded, gritty and authentic South African experience than you’d find in the sanitised marinas and glitzy promenades of Cape Town.

A little background
With the historic, teeming township of Soweto, the lush suburbs of the north, and the vibrant ethnic communities that circle the inner city, Johannesburg presents an endlessly fascinating roll-call of experiences, and one which is as colourful and contradictory as the continent of Africa.
