Bangkok - Airport Guide

The biggest airport in Southeast Asia, the new Bangkok Airport Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is situated 30km east of Bangkok and home to Thai Airways. Road access to the new airport is efficient and the new high-speed rail link to the airport is open for business, too.

There’s a free shuttle bus whizzing travelers around the airport’s huge campus - from arrivals to the public transport hubs, car hire, taxi and limousine stands.

Airport Express

Bangkok’s efficient Airport Express provides air-conditioned transportation between the Airport and many Bangkok hotels. The cost is 150 baht and the buses operate from 5:00 am to midnight. Head to the Airport Express Counter Level 1, near Entrance 8.

Taxis

A gleaming fleet of taxis await passengers at the pick up area, Level 1. There are taxi counters dotted throughout this level (be prepared to queue, though).

The Taxi counter will give you a form with the relevant taxi driver’s registration number (don’t hand this in, this is your confirmation of a ride into town. Ensure your taxi is metered. The journey takes anywhere between 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on the traffic. You can expect to pay around 250B for the Sukhumvit tourist area and up to 350B - 400B to Khao San. Try and get some change at the airport of 1000B notes to 20B, 50B and 100B ones. Authorised taxis have yellow-and-black number plates and the 'Taxi-meter' sign on top of the vehicle.
