Local art is also displayed in old diesel tanks from the War on Collins Avenue, and this is really worth a visit.
Cairns also has its share of museums. Among them, the largest of these, the Cairns Museum, is located in the School of Arts building and houses displays and collections which showcase local history, Aboriginal culture and much more. The Shipwreck Museum is home to some excellent displays documenting early exploration of the famous Great Barrier Reef.
Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park is a wonderful showcase of the fascinating culture of the People of the Rainforest. The largest employer of indigenous Australians, it allows guests to experience theatrical performances and engage in interactive activities. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
