Dubai - Airport guide

As the main airport the Dubai International Airport is a major transport hub for the Middle East. With more than 50 million passengers passing through yearly, it is one of the busiest airports in the world. It also boasts a main hub for Emirates.

Served by three terminals, you’ll be arriving at terminal 1. As it’s only 5 kilometres from downtown Dubai, you can easily reach your intended destination between 10 and 45 minutes depending on the traffic. If you have a long layover the city is close enough to reach in order to break up your time, and the airport has various eating and shopping facilities for your convenience.

Getting from the airport to your intended destination within Dubai is simple due to the vast number of connection options available.

The most common way to commute from the airport is by taxi. There are various metered cabs located outside the airport, which can be distinguished by their cream colour.

Most hotels within Dubai also offer taxi transport for their guests.

An extremely convenient way to commute from the airport to your destination is via the Dubai Metro. Running at 10 minute intervals, the stations are located at the airport terminals and provide connections to stations throughout the city. The Dubai Red Line services stop at major destinations including Dubai Creek, the Mall of the Emirates and the Financial Center. Following your arrival at the various stops, feeder buses can provide efficient onward connections.

Car rental

If you would prefer to travel at your own convenience, then you can rent a car from the airport. Most major car rental companies have kiosks within the arrivals hall, for those who wish to see the city from the comfort of their own transport. Customers must provide their passport and a valid licence when renting a vehicle. Within the UAE driving is on the right hand side, and if you intend on exploring outside the city limits, a 4x4 is recommended.

Water taxi

A rather unique and interesting way to travel between Bar Dubai and Deira is by water taxi, across the Dubai Creek. This interesting travel concept was created to enhance Dubai’s water transport, and provide fully air conditioned water buses.
