Notorious for its party atmosphere and generally energetic night life, Miami is buzzing all through the year. Whether you want fun in the sun or a New Year party to remember, there’s always something going on this city to keep you entertained during your vacation.
January – Art Deco Weekend
The history of Art Deco runs throughout Miami’s architecture, so it’s only natural to hold a celebration of the design style. With more than 300,000 people attending, revel in the art, architecture, music and culinary delights on offer.
February - Coconut Grove Arts Festival
As South Florida’s premier arts festival, more than 100,000 people descend upon Coconut Grove to experience the works of 360 international artists. Those attending the event can experience amazing feats of artistic creativity in a variety of forms including mixed media, photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, digital art, clay work, watercolours, fibre, jewellery, glass, sculpture, wood and metal work.
March - Winter Music Conference
If you love music and electronic music in particular, then head to Miami Beach for this weeklong extravaganza, that’s been taking place since the mid-80s. With around 100,000 attendees, the event features a whole host of professional DJs, artists, record label execs, promoters, producers and radio veterans.
April - Miami Wine & Food Festival
With more than 3,000 lovers of wine, spirits and food descending on this event, this is a festival feast like no other. With an array of notable chefs, winemakers, breweries and prestigious wineries all attending, this is a fun filled gastronomic day out with a few drinks thrown in along the way.
May – Cuba Nostalgia
Featuring various music performances, exhibits, art, memorabilia and food, this three day festival takes you on a journey back in time. Celebrate the Cuba of yesteryear in Little Havana, as Cuban-Americans come together to remember and celebrate the island’s glamorous times. This is an excellent way to experience another culture and way of life over a short period of fun filled time.
June - Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival
Experience this huge celebration of culture and heritage as you witness this festival celebrating the Goombay legacy. You’ll be both entertained and educated in the American/Bahamian culture as you’re exposed to their rich heritage and traditions; including a colourful parade of costumed people dancing to the rhythmic sounds of cowbells, drums and whistles.
July - July 4th Celebration
If you find yourself in Miami during Independence Day, you can join in the multiple celebrations taking place throughout the vibrant landscape. With free admissions to Bayfront Park, with a kid’s zone and an impressive fireworks display, it makes for the perfect spot for a 4th of July celebration. There are also a variety of other festivities happening throughout the city, some of which may require a ticket.
August – Brazilian Film Festival of Miami
Running for more than a decade this festival showcases the best in Brazilian cinema. With more than twenty productions being screened for attendees, alongside competitive and special screenings, this is considered the largest event solely dedicated to Brazilian cinema. So for all you film buffs out there, pop along and embrace the art of film from another country and l experience something new.
September – Miami International Wine Fair
If you’re holidaying in this fun filled paradise and just happen to enjoy a glass or two of wine, then the Miami International Wine Fair is the place for you. Situated at the Miami Beach Convention Center, this is one of the largest wine tradeshows in the whole of the US, bringing together importers, retailers, distributers, buyers and plenty of wine lovers to sample 1,800 wines form 20 different countries.
October – Nightmare on the Beach
You can’t have fun in October without celebrating Halloween, and you can’t party in Miami without hitting the beach at least once. So why not combine the two with the Little Lighthouse Foundation’s annual Halloween bonanza on the beach. Dress up in full scary attire and join the party as you sip cocktails, observe the fabulous decorations and embrace the live entertainment. All proceeds from the event go to local children and families who struggle with medical, educational, financial and emotional challenges.
November - Miami Books Fair International
Running for 30 years, this annual literary festival brings together over 300 national and international stars of the literary world. During the weeklong celebrations all corners of the literary spectrum are celebrated, from books to comics to adult, young adults and children’s novels, you name it, it’s covered. With hundreds of thousands of people attending over the eight day celebrations, the fair helps to promote reading, writing, and literacy,bringing the power of words into society.
December – King Mango Strut
Revel in the eccentricity of Coconut Grove at this event that sought to poke tasteless and offensive, yet hilarious fun at the year’s events and newsmakers. With a parade, drinks and plenty of food and activities, this is a fun filled day for the whole family.
