Diverse culture

Visit the magnificent Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro for a show, or simply a tour, and marvel at the beautiful architecture. Just next door stands the Odeon cinema which remains the venue for the many film festivals held throughout the year. For something completely different, visit the modern Museu de Arte do Rio, the city’s first public museum for 70 years.

Find the best viewpoint

As you step off your cheap flight to Rio, you will recognise the famous and imposing Sugar Loaf mountain. The more active will see it as something to be conquered. Whilst you are at it, why not also try the 215-metre hike to the summit of the Morro da Urca, the Pedra Bonita, and of course Corcovado to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Beaches galore

After you have conquered the hills and had your culture hit, it’s time to chill out, or surf if you have the energy, on one of Rio’s many beaches. Ipanema, Copacabana, Barra, Grumari and Prainha are all beaches worthy of a visit for differing reasons. After all, you will have found the best deal on Rio De Janeiro flights, so you deserve some beach time.

When to go

The cost of return flights to Rio doesn’t change significantly on a seasonal basis, although prices can peak in February around the Mardi Gras. To find the cheapest flights, be flexible on your dates, and look out for the last-minute flights offered in the sales.

Rio de Janeiro is hot for most of the year – the hottest month is February, when it averages 27 degrees Celsius, and for the rest of the year the temperature rarely drops below 21 degrees Celsius. It tends to rain more from December to March so avoid these months if you solely want to lounge on the beach.
If you want to catch the excitement of the Mardi Gras carnival, look for return flights to Rio de Janeiro in February, whatever the weather.

Getting around the airports

Getting to the city from the airports

Galeao Airport is well connected to the city: take your pick from the BRT (Bus Rapid Transfer system, which has its own dedicated roads allowing the bus to travel more quickly), bus, or metro. Alternatively, you could take a taxi, but as Galeao is over 12 miles away from the city centre, this will be the most expensive option.
