Check-in - British Airways

Check-in

Depending on where you are flying from, there are various ways to check in for British Airways flight.

At Airport

All BA flights from London Heathrow and Gatwick have dedicated check-in desks – these will close 45 minutes before a flight departs. For international flights it is advised that passengers arrive at least 2 hours before their departure time to check in and pass through the necessary security areas. You must be in possession of a boarding pass by the time check-in closes, or you will not be accepted for the flight.

You may chose to check in at the airport using a British Airways check-in kiosk; these machines have an interactive touch screen which allows you to check in, choose your seat and print your own boarding pass at your own convenience. In order to use this service, you must have your booking number, a form of identification and your flight number.

Online

BA passengers may check in online from 24 hours before their flight departs. The online check in system for each flight closes 1 hour before a flight’s scheduled departure. The online check-in system is available from the British Airways website.

Alternatively, passengers may choose to check-in using their mobile phone; most mobile phones with internet accessibility will be able to access the British Airways website to check-in; however, boarding cards must be printed before boarding an aircraft – these can be printed from email yourself or picked up from the airport.

When travelling from the USA, you must go to a check-in desk and see a British Airways agent, even if you have used online check-in or a check-in kiosk. This is to complete formalities before you go through security.
