Without a doubt, it is certainly easier to find cheap flights to Scotland during the winter months (excluding national and school holidays), because the weather is much colder, wetter and extremely unpredictable. It is often said that you can experience all four seasons in a single day when visiting the Scottish Highland, which, no matter the time of year, can be very interesting to experience.

When is the Best Time to Book your Flight to Aberdeen?

We recommend booking your return Aberdeen flights two or three months in advance if you want to find the best deals on your airfare. It is possible to hunt for cheaper last-minute flights, but this often requires more flexibility and a bit of luck. If you’re in the market for a truly authentic experience, then be sure to visit at the same time as the city’s Highland Games in the first week of July. Be ready for a day action-packed with events celebrating the region's traditions; you can look forward to seeing highland dancing, tug of war and the renowned Kilted Dash.

Why Visit Aberdeen?

Known countrywide as the ‘Granite City’ for its characteristic rows of grey-toned buildings, Aberdeen is an important northeast hub for Scotland, both in terms of tourism and industry. The Victorian era architecture has also inspired its lesser-known moniker, the ‘Silver City’, as much of the granite that was used for construction has a high mica content and tends to sparkle in the sun. Famous for such landmarks as the Powis Gate of Old Aberdeen, His Majesty’s Theatre and the Aberdeen Maritime Museum, this coastal city is not one to be missed.
Apart from taking in the historical centre, one of the biggest reasons for visiting Aberdeen is to explore the gorgeous wilderness that lies just outside of the busy city streets. Situated within an area known as the Scottish Lowlands, Aberdeen is nestled in the countryside between mountainous peaks and deep glens. Aberdeenshire is also home to the Scottish residence of the Royal Family, Balmoral. Surrounded by 50,000 acres of land and home a variety of wildlife, including deer, ponies and Highland cattle, the royal home is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature at its finest.
