Chicago travel guide

Nicknamed ‘The Windy City’, Chicago’s skyline is filled with skyscrapers, including 10 of the world’s tallest buildings.

Open your eyes to the finest architecture from across the globe, created by some of America’s greatest architects.

Get yourself a Chicago Card, and visit some of the best known skyscrapers in the city or even the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Society.

Renowned for its artistic side, the city is filled with galleries like the Art Institute of Chicago, which houses Edward Hopper’s ‘Nighthawks.’ And the culture of Chicago doesn't end here! You can also experience a number of museums, such as the Field Museum; home to ‘Sue’ the world’s largest T-Rex.

Don’t forget to check out the amazing night-life that exists in places like the Chicago Blues Bar; an establishment that gives you a real taste of this city’s musical offerings.

The central area of Chicago’s downtown consists of tree-lined North Michigan Avenue, known as ‘The Magnificent Mile’ for its superb selection of shops and stores and the ‘Loop’, the bustling business and cultural district of Chicago. To the east, the shores of Lake Michigan form a natural city boundary where Navy Pier provides 50 acres of parkland lakefront with an extensive range of outdoor activities. The River North area is a mecca of art, design and fashion, complete with original loft buildings housing art galleries, jewellers, museum stores, novelty shops and more.

Getting around

At just $6, a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) travel pass is the most convenient way to see all of Chicago’s attractions by bus and train. City taxis are readily available throughout the downtown area.

Don't leave without...

• Treating your credit card to a shopping trip along the Magnificent Mile.
• Taking in the sights of the city on a cruise along the scenic Chicago River.
• Enjoying a bird’s eye view of the city from The Willis Tower Skydeck.
• Soaking up the atmosphere of a live show at one of Chicago’s Blues or Jazz Clubs.
• Visiting the Museum Campus, home to the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum of Natural History.
• Visiting Navy Pier, Chicago’s biggest family entertainment complex.
