Montreal Travel Guide

The downtown area is the bustling epicentre of the city, close to all the major shops and equipped with a cosmopolitan plethora of bars, restaurants and cafes. There are the usual suspects when it comes to hotel chains, so you can play it safe if that is what you so wish.

However, thanks to its multicultural background, Montreal is a diverse and intriguing city, and you may prefer to immerse yourself in this by staying in the Old Port where you will find French boutique hotels and inns. These generally offer far more character and historical value; housed in buildings hundreds of years old and fronting onto cobbled streets, also offering close proximity to the Bell Centre, the NHL's largest arena.

The Plateau offers similar charm, with smaller hotels offering reasonable rates. They are located close to the shops of Avenue Mont-Royal and the late night jazz bars and nightclubs, so why not stay close to the action and give yourself a brief stumble home after a night of dancing.
