Beach Rotana Hotel, Abu Dhabi - Destination Info

The Yas Marina race track, home of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, is well worth a visit. You can play golf, cycle the track, watch polo or have a ride on the world’s fastest roller coaster at the Ferrari theme park.

Look out for the amazing developments on Saadiyat Island, a 27 square kilometre piece of land just off the coast. Half the size of Bermuda, it’s got 19 km of beaches, with a Guggenheim Museum taking shape too.

See what is reported to be the world’s tallest sand dune, Tel Moreeb. This comes alive in February for the Moreeb Hill Climb when vehicles of all description tackle the desert obstacle.

One of the largest mosques in the world, with room for 41 000 worshippers, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is best visited on a 5pm sunset tour when it is at its most beautiful. Unlike most other mosques, it’s open daily to visitors, except for Friday morning.

The Abu Dhabi Corniche is eight kilometres of manicured waterfront. Hire a bike and cycle the pathway past the kids’ play area, cafes and restaurants. The Corniche Beach is fully life guarded and a great place to cool off.

Other activities that Abu Dhabi and its desert surroundings offer include balloon trips, helicopter tours, desert camping safaris, and for the more active, sand boarding and dune skiing.

A unique pursuit in the area is camel racing, as well as the more usual equestrian sport, both great spectator sports.
