Centara Karon Resort, Phuket - Destination Info

Phuket is a real tropical paradise. Thailand’s largest island has some of the finest beaches on earth. Powder-soft sands and the clear waters of the Andaman Sea, blue lagoons, spectacular sunsets and a lush interior of hills, mountains and spectacular cliffs are the perfect setting for getting away from it all.

Outdoors, there’s plenty to keep you occupied: sea trips by yacht or kayak, exploring little islands and quiet beaches, scuba diving or snorkeling, windsurfing, deep sea fishing, or just lazing on your lounger with a Sabai Sabai cocktail.

A day-trip will take you inland to see the other side of the island’s charms. Spectacular waterfalls and cheeky monkeys, eco safaris and elephant trekking, beautiful temples and charming villages are just a few of Phuket’s highlights.

Another Phuket tourist favourite is getting yourself a suit made cheaply by one of the island’s legendary tailors, or picking up a memorable souvenir of pearls, beautiful batik print goods, or pewter ware. Of course, the food is delicious, with that special Thai blend of the sweet, the sour, the fiery and the freshness of distinctive herbs. Especially when applied to the wonderful seafood fresh from the Andaman Sea. You can learn exactly how to cook the authentic way at a local Thai Cookery school, skills that you’ll certainly appreciate when you next have guests for dinner.

You can hone your golf skills on one of Phuket’s half a dozen courses. After dark, beach bars and racy ‘ladyboy’ shows keep the fun going, though a starlit sea-kayak trip is a rather more tranquil way to have a great night out.

Fascinating festivals abound, with the rather bizarre Vegetarian Festival including food of course, but also fire walking and sword-blade ladder climbing.
