With glitz and glamour around every corner and a reputation for being the party and entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas is high on the ‘must visit’ list of many around the world.
But planning a trip to Vegas can take a little time, so getting the finer details of your vacation are of vital importance.
This is why we’ve compiled a list of tips to keep in mind before you jet off to the fabulous and famous strip.
Pack the right clothes
This may seem like the most obvious tip in the world, but you’d be surprised how many people head to Vegas with all the wrong things.
Vegas is hot, and we mean hot, temperatures can pass 100 degrees, so the last thing you want to pack is your thermals. When packing make sure you keep your clothing light and holiday friendly for when you’re walking around in the sun, as it can get unbearable sometimes. Also pack swimwear just in case you want to cool down in the pool – Vegas pool parties are legendary, so you don’t want to miss out.
But be prepared. Make sure you pack a light jacket or something you can wear indoors, as the casinos have constant air con to prevent you overheating.
Be formal
Okay you don’t have to be formal all the time – otherwise it wouldn’t feel like a holiday. However when you’re packing your case make sure you pack at least one formal outfit, especially if you’re planning on attending certain shows or visiting particular clubs and casinos, as some have a strict dress code.
Get out of the casino
We know sitting in the casino and gambling is all part of the fun when in Vegas, after all it’s the world’s top gambling location, and the reason why it’s become known as an adult playground. However just remember you came all this way and spent all this money to be in this amazing place; the last thing you want to do is sit indoors for the duration of the vacation.
Nevada is a beautiful place, and plays home to some of the most stunning scenery and greatest sights around, which you should take the time to observe; particularly the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. You could even take part in other activities around the strip, just don’t stay undercover the whole time.
Prepare your trips
This being said, if you are planning on taking part in trips to museums or landmarks, in and around Vegas, then make sure you plan them well in advance. By doing this you’ll know what you’re doing and when you’re doing it – you’ll also know the duration of the activity, so you can be well rested and prepared.
This will also give you a better idea of how much money you’ll need on your days out, and how much you’ll need for your overall trip.
If you’re planning on visiting any particular stage shows or dining at particular restaurants, then you may want to book your seats or reservations before you get there, as some places fill up fast. Drinking outside
Remember, just because you’re a tourist doesn’t make you exempt from the law. Vegas may seem like a laid back party, which on the whole it is, but scenes from the movies don’t happen every day.
Whilst drinking indoors is perfectly fine, and to some degree encouraged; drinking on the street is not. You can leave the premises of a building with alcohol, so long as you’ve been allowed by the bar staff. Vegas doesn’t allow glass or tin receptacles in the street, so pint glasses and cans are out of the question, and be careful when you’re drinking as you have to be a certain distance from buildings like schools and places of worship – otherwise you could end up behind bars for the night.
Pace yourself
You’re on holiday and everyone loves to have a drink on holiday, but with Vegas being notorious for its partying, you really need to pace yourself.
When you’re in the casinos it’s great to have a drink, but don’t overdo it as some places provide you with free alcohol in the hope you stick more money in the slots. If this happens you could wind up spending more than you intended, end up in bed by 5 and miss that exciting night out you had planned.
Budget
Finally the most important aspect of having an amazing time in Vegas is budgeting. Before you leave you’ll have an idea of how much money you have to spend, and by booking and planning your days before hand, you can ensure you have enough cash to do them all.
With this in mind also give yourself a gambling limit, because you don’t want to lose it all and not be able to take part in those fun day activities you had planned.
