Hong Kong - Airport Guide

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is, as you'd expect, a state-of-the-art facility with all the joined-up transportation systems you could wish for. Transport whisks you into the heart of Hong Kong, with buses connecting the airport with all parts of the island too.

The HKIA Airport Express takes passengers to downtown Hong Kong's business district every 12 minutes, taking just short of half an hour. The train also has a return service from Kowloon and Hong Kong Stations. If you're off to Disneyland Resort you should change for the Tung Chung line at Tsing Yi Station, then alight at Sunny Bay to connect with Disney's own Resort Line.

The Airport Express bus station offers free bus shuttles to most major hotels. Check at the Airport Express Bus Station. Shuttle buses have an identifying 'S' displayed ahead of their route number and run from 5.30 am to midnight.

HKIA is served by a fleet of efficient public buses, taking passengers into the heart of the city and surrounding areas. Airport bus services start with the letter 'A' in front of the bus route number and run from around 6 am to midnight. External or city-based bus routes have an 'E' in front of their number and run from around 5.30 am to midnight but all go to main transport hubs, major city and suburban locations.

Taxis offer perhaps the most convenient way to arrive into the city - depending on rush hour traffic. The Taxi Station can be found by taking the left-hand ramp outside the Arrivals Hall.

Taxis in Hong Kong are colour-coded according to their operating areas. Separate rows are designated for different types of taxi. Red, Urban Taxis operate throughout Hong Kong, except Tung Chung Road and south Lantau. Green taxis serve the New Territories area and parts of Lantau. Blue serve all parts of Lantau.

Expect to pay anywhere between 250 and 350 HK$ into Hong Kong - a distance of around 35 kms with journey time around one hour.
