The city’s Metro Rail System is a network of subways, light-rail, buses and shuttles. The seven fast, frequent and environmental subway, light rail and bus lines are colour coded to help you see the sights stress free. Connecting up destinations such as Long Beach, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, the lines link the city, enabling you to explore every inch of the LA hotspots and hidden gems.

If you prefer the idea of seeing LA on your own schedule, you’ll find 40 car rental companies servicing LAX, located outside baggage claim at the airport, but remember you must be 25 to hire a vehicle.

To get around LA, at leisure or in a hurry, try the city’s three colour coded bus services - the orange Metro Local makes stops on major streets, good for hopping off while seeing the city, the red Metro Rapid has fewer stops and speedier journeys while the blue Metro Express offers a reduced stop service along the city’s freeway systems. The DASH downtown bus route offers six quick bus routes through Downtown, departing every five to 10 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, and every 15 minutes between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets can be bought from the vending machines in all Metro stations. A base fare is $1.50, or you can pick up a Metro Day Pass for $6, good until 3am, or a weekly pass for $20. Most bus and rail lines start around 4am and keep running past midnight, though they are less frequent in the evenings.
