Cheap winter sun holidays 2017
When you go to work and come home in the dark, it soon gets pretty depressing. That’s when the prospect of some warm sun elsewhere in the world looks like a great escape. And you don’t have to go that far either. Choose the right place and your winter sun holiday might well be a cheap one too. After all, often the place you are going to won’t be as expensive as at peak times.
It’s only a few hours to the warmer climes of Cyprus or the Canary Islands, or fly overnight and you could land in Cape Town in the very middle of their summer (without jetlag).
Cyprus is an average 20°C in November/December, so you’ll be able to enjoy all the beauties of Aphrodite’s mythical birthplace. Sandy beaches, rugged coastline, nature trails, wine-producing villages and ancient monasteries, it’s quite a place.
Further afield, your winter sun break in 2017 could take you somewhere like Dubai. A celebrity haunt, with more than a little glitz and glamour, temperatures are a balmy 20 -25°C whilst we are shivering back in the UK. Beaches, souks and super shopping are amongst Dubai’s attractions.
In Egypt, there’s an absolutely fascinating treasure trove of cultural sites, artefacts and, of course, Mummies. Visit Karnak and Luxor in the winter months for guaranteed winter sun, rather than the searing heat of summer. This is definitely a place where you can haggle for some cheap winter sun.
Head west across the Atlantic for the islands of the Caribbean, and you’ll be in the middle of their high season. December to April is their best weather time. For cheaper than usual winter sun in 2017, consider jetting out for your dose of powder-white beaches, swaying palms, warm waters and a rum cocktail or two, in late October or November.
Also, look out for the late deals that can pop up during their high season for places like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Barbados, the Bahamas and St Lucia.
Further west, sun-drenched Orlando awaits, a playground for adults and kids alike. Temperatures range from the high teens to the early 30’s during December to May. Most of the major theme parks are open and have special Festive programmes too.
If you want full-on summer weather, down-under is a perfect option. Australia is the place for a hot Christmas or New Year, with a barbie on the beach replacing a turkey in the snow. It’s obviously a bit busier than some winter sun destinations, but bargains are possible. Why not look at a multi-centre trip from Melbourne, up the east coast via Sydney, Brisbane, finishing up in the tropical rain forests of Queensland and the amazing underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef. You’ll definitely come back with a tan after this dose of winter sun in 2015.
