Holidays in Shanghai

Prepare to explore an intriguing and enticing city full of street level draws, as you head to the Far East for your Shanghai holidays.

Possibly the first notable encounter you'll have upon your arrival will be boarding the Shanghai Maglev, the magnetic levitation train that whisks you from the airport towards the city. Reaching speeds of almost 270mph may leave you a little weak at the knees, but will prepare you for the fast-paced city life that awaits.

Head to Nanjing Road, regarded as the city's first commercial road, now a busy bustling street that's great for people watching. Ironically, so too is People's Square, something of a retreat where you can chill in the grass under the trees and gaze up at the incredible skyline. Make for the Bund, a riverfront boardwalk that is popular among both Chinese and international tourists.

To get away from the hustle and bustle, visit the Yuyuan Garden in the heart of the Old City, then enjoy a trip down the river in the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao. Ensure that you top off at least one day with an evening of xiao long bao, a delicious explosion of steamed soup-filled dumpling!
