The best places to shop in Kuala Lumpur

By February 4, 2013November 8th, 2018No Comments

You’ve just been dropped in the middle of Kuala Lumpur with orders to shop til you drop. You are giddy with excitement because this is your area of expertise and with no limits, where are you going to go? There are so many places and so little time. You may have to sit down, take a few calming breaths, and take along a little cheat sheet to help make the process easier. Here it is, and you’re welcome.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Shopping Mall

You can’t go shopping without hitting at least one mall,  so make it the best in Kuala Lumpur. Located in the Bukit Bintang district, the Pavilion easily tops the list. You’ll find the trendiest fashions, perfumes, home furnishings, and great food and entertainment. Oh, but that’s not all. The mall also has two residential towers which give the term “I live at the mall” a whole new meaning.

Chinatown

It seems all the cool places have their own version of Chinatown and Kuala Lumpur is no exception. From the wonderful sights and sounds of Petaling Street to the Central Market in Pasar Seni, you can spend the entire day shopping and picking up unique and wonderful gifts for yourself or someone special. There are bargains to be had, so be prepared to haggle. Then you can buy more and not feel so guilty about it.

Chow Kit Market

After your excursion into Chinatown and its own Central Market, head to the Chow Kit Market in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. If you’re not afraid of less than stellar cleanliness and can hold your own with pushy vendors vying for your attention, you’ll surely feel victorious after your hard-fought shopping adventure. There is both a wet and dry market, the wet market being the largest in Malaysia. Bring home some great meat and vegetables for ridiculously low prices and you’ll think you’ve won the lottery.

Plaza Yo Lat

If you are just dying to get more electronics gadgets, perhaps the best place to shop is Plaza Yo Lat. Here you’ll find every kind of electronics product you can possibly imagine at cheap prices. The upper five floors are just overflowing with electronics stores and kiosks. You can find a new digital camera, laptop, video game console, cell phone, and more all in one place. In no time at all you’ll have all kinds of goodies to take home and figure out how to use.

Second Charm

For some serious vintage shopping, Second Charm on Lorong Rahim Kajai will take you back to a time when furniture and decorative accents had more personality and sturdiness. Second Charm carries vintage furniture, antiques and collectibles as well as beautiful reproductions. If you find something you really like you better grab it quickly because it may not be there tomorrow. Of course you should come back tomorrow to see the new stuff that comes in. Vintage shopping can be brutal.

Heart of Pets Empire

If you have dogs, cats, or other critters at home, surprise them with treats made just for them. Heart of Pets Empire specializes in yummy cupcakes, cakes, and cookies that look too good not to try yourself. With ingredients like fat-free yogurt and cream cheese, you might find that they really are pretty good and Fido can just have some dog biscuits out of a box. Of course you’d never do that to Fido, would you?

Now you can tuck this cheat sheet away so you’re ready to hit the ground running the next time you get dropped in Kuala Lumpur with that unlimited expense account. One can dream.
