Best places to spend the Fourth of July

By July 3, 2012November 8th, 2018No Comments

With Independence Day fast approaching, Americans are gearing up for celebrations that almost always include parades, barbecues, and fireworks. All around the nation, festivities abound for the Fourth of July and many will be too good to miss. These cities will definitely be celebrating in a big way.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas has always been a party town, but this Fourth of July the party will be an event to outdo all other Vegas celebrations. Starting bright and early, the Independence Day Patriotic Parade will kick off around 8:00 a.m. at Hills Center Drive, located in the Las Vegas Valley. For the best fireworks display, find a spot before 9:00 p.m. for an eye-popping show that will be carried out at the Aliante Station, Green Valley Ranch, Fiesta Rancho, Texas Station, and the Red Rock Resort. There’s always something fun to do in Las Vegas, so enjoy a show or try your luck in the casinos, and make the Fourth a day to remember.

Kansas City, Missouri

A long-time tradition, the KC Riverfest is a great way to spend the day with the family and to delight at one of the best fireworks displays in Kansas City. Throughout the day there will be bands playing featuring music of many genres, carnival rides for the kids, and great food. If you get there before 3 p.m. admission is free. Set along the Missouri River at Richard L. Berkley Riverfront Park, the scenery is spectacular. Its huge expanse takes in many wonderful views of the bridges and downtown Kansas City. This is the perfect place to spend Independence Day and one that will long be remembered.

Manhattan, New York

Rain or shine, the Freedom Fest in New York City will happen in full celebration mode. The whole family will enjoy this day-long event with barbecue to make your mouth water and even a cash bar at Pier 81. The musical guest will be New York’s own DJ Price. The pier is located on Manhattan’s west side and the premiere spot to catch the Macy’s Fireworks over the Hudson River. Fireworks will be ignited from six different barges, with the show lasting a heart-stopping twenty-six minutes. A trademark of the Macy’s Fireworks Display is the “Golden Mile” which showers golden sparkles along a mile-wide stretch across the river. This year they are expanding it another mile for additional red and green sparkles, so this is definitely the year not to miss.

San Francisco, California

Another waterfront Fourth of July event will be happening at Pier 39 in San Francisco. From noon until the fireworks display you’ll enjoy music from bands performing musical favourites from the 80s and 90s and good old-fashioned beach music to get you in the festive mood. You’ll also be treated with music by the Air Force Band. The best part is it’s all free. Of course there will be food and drinks and lots of dancing going on. At 9:30 p.m. the fireworks begin over the San Francisco Bay as they are launched from barges north of Pier 39 and from the foot of the Municipal Pier. The San Francisco Bay is a beautiful place day or night, but this Fourth of July its beauty will be enhanced by this fantastic fireworks display.
