Tampa - Airport Guide
Tampa is served by Tampa International Airport (TPA), a modern hub with stress-free onward connections to the coast and southern Florida’s tourist attractions (Saint Petersburg, one of the area’s busiest resorts, has its own international airport, Petersburg Clearwater International - PIE - offering onward shuttle services to the coast). If you’re heading into Tampa for a few days, TPA airport’s only 20 minutes away from Downtown by road.

The airport is served by a fleet of minibuses which operate a ‘shared ride’ system, cutting back the fare you’d pay by taxi considerably. Fares to Tampa start at around $12, with fares to Clearwater and the coast around $30. Head to the Commercial Ground Transportation area, outside the Baggage Claim level.
Taxis operate from outside the baggage reclaim area, with flat rates to downtown Tampa at around $25. Minimum fare from the airport is $15, but if you’re headed out to the coast, expect to shell out around $50 (Clearwater is a good 40 kms from the airport).
All Taxi firms (United and Yellow Cab are the largest) have a similar pricing structure, $2 plus $2.25 per mile. The same rates apply when you pick up a taxi in Tampa and the resorts, too.
