Manila - Useful Information

Inoculations

No inoculations are required when visiting Manila, but it is advisable to take precautions against dengue fever and malaria, which are transmitted by mosquitoes.

To minimize the risk of endemic water-borne diseases like typhoid and cholera, stick to boiled or bottled water and avoid ice in drinks.

Currency

The unit of currency is the Philippine peso (PhP), with 100 centavos = 1PhP. Banknote denominations range from PhP 10 to PhP 1000. ATMs are the safest and most convenient way to obtain local currency. Alternatively, change cash and travellers’ cheques at banks. Other moneychangers are best used with caution.

Climate

Manila is subject to The Philippines’ two-season monsoon climate: wet and dry. The wet season usually runs from late May to early November, and is characterized by tropical storms and typhoons, particularly from July until the dry season. The dry season lasts from late November to early May, with temperatures generally in the range of 24-30°C (75-86°F) between December and February, heating up, in coastal Manila, to around 37°C (99°F) from March to May.
