New York - Airport Guide

New York is served by two international airports - the huge JFK in Queens County, Long Island, and across the Hudson River, the increasingly popular hub airport of Newark, New Jersey.

JFK

JFK is connected to New York's efficient and cheap subway and commuter rail system by the Air Train, 24 hours a day. There are subway maps at the Airport, should you need to check where the nearest station to your hotel is. Fares are around $3 for a single trip plus Air Train charge. If you’re returning to the airport, take the A Train to Far Rockaway, or Rockaway Port. Taxis cost around $50 (plus tip) to Manhattan. They’re lined up outside every terminal, and you shouldn’t pay an additional charge for luggage.

Shared private cars are a cheaper option – Go Airlink NYC offer shared rates from around $16 per passenger, for groups up to 11. Rides are available, again from outside each terminal, 24 hours a day.

The Airport Express Bus is available from 6am to 11pm, leaving every 15-30 minutes, and cost around $13. Or buy a round trip ticket for $22. Disembark at Grand Central, Port Authority or Penn Station. The ride takes around 1 hour.

Newark New Jersey

Getting from Newark, New Jersey airport is easy. The Air Train connects to Amtrak Trains, which shuttle straight into the heart of Manhattan, and can be much faster than a taxi. The fare is around $11 one way, to Penn Station. Service from 5am to 2am.

Taxis are metered, and cost around $50-$70 (plus tip) depending on where you’re travelling to in Manhattan. They’re lined up outside every terminal.

Newark Liberty Express Buses leave every 15 minutes, from 4am to 1am, taking around 1 hour to midtown Manhattan, and every two hours to downtown. One way fares are from $13.
