Bangkok
The playground of south-east Asia, Bangkok is an all-out assault on the senses. Colourful, cultural and chaotic, Bangkok also has some of the most serene temples, ancient spirit shrines and first class restaurants, hidden amid the soaring skyscrapers and screaming traffic.

A little background
To many Thai devotees, the city is about as far removed from the 'real' Thailand as is possible, but don't believe them. Sure, in the summer heavily touristy areas have little authentic charm, but the shrines and temples, the street life and – especially – the royal parks and car free island of Ko Kret are all typically Thai and totally wonderful. No visitor should miss a walk around Ko Ratanakosin, the former royal district which is chock-full of royal temples, markets and parks. Nor would it be wise to leave without getting at least a flavour of Bangkok's justifiably notorious nightlife.
Evening entertainment
The evening buzzes with anticipation and excitement and, if you chose your route through it carefully, you'll leave with some wonderful (and some frankly, bizarre) images, sounds and smells – as your nocturnal journey takes in delicious street food, decadent cabaret and a multi-cultural mix of bars offering everything from Arabic smoking pipes to reggae, techno to tapas. Seek and you will find in Bangkok.
