Cheap car hire in Portugal

Should you be headed to Portugal, you might find that hiring a car is the ideal way to get yourself around during your stay. The country’s fairly small size means you’ll be able to see large parts of it with comparable ease.

Holiday car hire in Portugal from only £12.54 per day!

Destination From (per day)
Faro car hire £12.54 Check Availability
Lisbon car hire £20.58 Check Availability
Madeira car hire £21.13 Check Availability

Driving from Porto in the north all the way down to Faro on the south coast only takes around 4 1/2 hours, and there’s plenty to see in between. Forty five miles and less than an hour to the north of Portugal’s second city you’ll find Viana do Castelo, a beautiful spot by the Rio Lima estuary that is steeped in history and blessed with incredible beaches to soak up the holiday sun on.

If you’re looking to surf then try and rent a car with roof racks, and you'll be free to chase those waves as the ocean dictates with your own board, otherwise rental companies are in plentiful supply. Praia do Amado, Peniche and Ericeira should all be suitable for good waves, or if you’re feeling daring enough seek out the monster surf at Praia do Norte.

Make sure you book a hire car as early as you can, as rental prices more often than not will increase greatly the closer longer you leave it.

Your own set of wheels will allow trips to places such as Cape St Vincent near Sagres, the most south western point of Europe and around a three hour drive from Lisbon. Explore the little Museu dos Faróis, complete with its history of both Sagres’, important to Portugal’s maritime past and the Cape’s lighthouse, and if the skies play along with your plans stick around for a breath-taking sunset.
