January - Children's Day

April - Songkran 

The traditional Thai New Year is celebrated by squirting and splashing water in a huge water fight, alongside other traditional religious and family duties.

May - Regatta Samui

June - Visakha Bucha Day 

This is a public holiday for celebrating Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death, with a candlelit procession at local temples.

The opposite of a Full Moon Party, with progressive house and trance played under a new moon at a party on Ban Tai Beach on Koh Phangan.

August - Wan Khao Phansa 

This day, also known as 'Buddhist Lent', is when the rainy season is heralded and people gather at temples to listen to the Dharma.

September - Full Moon Party 

A visit to Thailand would be incomplete without raving it up at one of their legendary Full Moon parties at Haad Rin Beach, reached by boat from Koh Samui.

October - Chulalongkorn Day 

A public holiday to commenerate the death of King Chulalongkorn with a ceremony at a prime public location.

November - Loy Krathong 

Thai's pray to the goddess of the waters by floating candlelit paper offerings on waterways. Like many public celebrations it is tied into the full moon cycle.

December - Constitution Day 

This day commenorates Thailand's change from a kingdom to a democracy and sees the country decorated in bunting and flags.
