Family Holidays - Islands of Adventure
Universal Orlando Resort is home to the wonderful Islands of Adventure theme park – a place where favourite childhood characters come to life and invite guests into their world! From Dr Seuss and friends to Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk and even Popeye, Islands of Adventure is the place to be reminded of comic books, cartoons and even magic. With rides based on Jurassic Park, X-Men and Dr Seuss, there really is something for everyone in the family.
The Islands of Adventure are made up of seven themed island areas – with the park entrance found within the Port of Entry and the other six islands containing rides, attractions, restaurants and shops. Port of Entry is the only island which does not contain any rides – instead, containing a number of places to eat, the Islands of Adventure Trading Company – the park’s official gift shop and a Pharos Lighthouse – a working lighthouse which guides guests to the exit of the park at the end of each day.
The next island is Marvel Super Hero Island – a comic-book themed land, where the heroes and villains of the Marvel stories entertain guests on some thrilling rides. One of the most visible rides within the park can be found here – the vibrant green tracks of the Incredible Hulk Coaster can be seen from a number of spots across the park! The Incredible Hulk Coaster is a high adrenaline ride with a top speed of 65 miles per hour – and a heart-pounding accelerated launch hill. This ride has height restrictions, so check the height of children before you arrive. The Marvel Super Hero island is also home to The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman – a 3D simulator ride which really draws guests into the story, and Doctor Doom’s Fearfall – a ride where two towers allow guests to be shot into the air, before plummeting back down – with awesome views of the park!

After those thrilling attractions, why not cool off at Toon Lagoon? This is the island that you’re most likely to get wet on – with a very wet play area for kids, a log-flume style ride and a rafting adventure! Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls is a log flume with a roller coaster track – meaning that once you’re up, there’s only one way down – and a very big splash! Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is a river rafting ride where you’ll help Popeye rescue Olive – and may even be shot at by those playing in Me Ship, the Olive – the wet kids’ play area!
Next up is the Jurassic Park island – a place for the whole family to get close to some dinosaurs – but beware – they’re not all friendly! The biggest ride of this area is the Jurassic Park River Adventure – a boat ride where guests can see some friendly dinosaurs, followed by some not-so-friendly ones – and then plunge down a large drop into the lagoon below to escape from a crazed T-Rex. Again, this ride has a height restriction, but younger guests have a ride solely for their own enjoyment in this area – the Pteranodon Flyers is a slow suspended roller coaster only available for those between 91 and 140cm – plus a favourite adult of course! There are also a number of fun and educational attractions for kids and adults to explore here.

The Lost Continent is one of the smaller islands in the park – it offers guests that chance to get involved in two live action shows. The Eigth Voyage of Sinbad is a live-action stunt show which kids always love, whilst Poseidon’s Fury is an indoor special effects show, with water, fire, lasers and music all used to entertain. This area is also home to the Mythos Restaurant – one of only two full service restaurants within the park. The Mystic Fountain, a talking (and water shooting) fountain is well worth a look too!
Seuss Landing is a kids’ paradise, where sinking buildings, wonky light posts and brightly coloured shops all create a feeling of the absurd. Based on the works of Dr Seuss, this island has no straight lines anywhere, and even the restaurants carry on the theme – with the ‘Green Eggs and Ham Café’ a favourite stop-off of many! There’s a themed carousel (or Caro-Seuss-el), as well as The Cat In The Hat ride, and the One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish ride which spouts water at you if you don’t get your timing right!
