What is the cheapest time to fly to Bangkok?

Flights to Bangkok are often cheaper during out of peak season. This falls between March and May when the weather is at its hottest. Visiting during the rainy season (May to October) is also cheaper, and although it can be hot and humid with intermittent showers, the weather is not uncomfortably hot. It is possible to find cheap flights to Bangkok during the peak season, between November and March, just keep your eye out for deals well in advance of your departure dates.

Although we cannot guarantee when the best time to book Bangkok flights is to find the biggest savings, it is often recommended that you book about 18 weeks before departure from a UK airport to be rewarded with low fares. What are the airports in Bangkok?

There are two airports that serve Bangkok flights. These include Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang. British Airways flights to Bangkok land at Suvarnabhumi Airport, as well as a number of other non-stop flights. Don Mueang Airport is slightly closer to the city centre, however Suvarnabhumi Airport is much newer, having only opened in 2006.

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)

Suvarnabhumi Airport is Bangkok's main airport and is located 18 miles from the city centre. British Airways and Thai Airways fly direct from London to Bangkok, while Oman Air and Swiss Air are just two of the airline that offer indirect flights to Bangkok.

Don Mueang International Airport (DMK)

Don Mueang is Bangkok's other airport, which serves both domestic and international flights. It is located about 16 miles from the centre of Bangkok and many of the hotels in Bangkok. Oman Air offers Bangkok flights with two stopovers to Don Mueang Airport.

Transfer between Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang Airport

The two airports in Bangkok are approximately 24 miles from each other. There is a free shuttle bus that runs between the airports and departs every 30 minutes throughout the day.

How long does it take to fly from England to Bangkok, Thailand?

One connection flights to Bangkok take between 13 and 24 hours outbound, and 16 and 23 hours inbound. Whereas flights to Bangkok Thailand with two stopovers take 18 hours outbound and between 23 and 25 hours on the return flight.

Getting around the airports

Suvarnabhumi Airport has two terminals and there is a complimentary shuttle bus that operates between the terminals to transport passengers. Don Mueang International Airport also has two terminals and it’s easy for passengers to navigate between the terminals.

Getting to the city from the airports

Bangkok is not short of transport options, however which one you choose depends on whether you’re feeling brave or not – tuk tuks are not for the fainthearted! From Bangkok’s main airport (Suvarnabhumi Airport) you can catch a train on the Airport Rail Link directly into the city centre. This is the fastest way to get there. There is also an underground system and a Skytrain which both offer alternative transport to the city. A public bus service and limousine service also operate from this airport and there are plenty of car rental suppliers to choose from should you wish to hire your own transport.

There are also a number of transport options to get you from Don Mueang Airport to the centre of Bangkok, including trains, taxis and a public bus service.

Don't forget before you fly

In order to enter Thailand, you must obtain a tourist visa. This allows you to stay in Thailand for either 15 or 30 days. In order to be approved for a tourist visa you must submit an online application and have a passport with 6 months or more left until the expiration date. The cost of a visa is around $30.
