There are direct services available, however, with flights from London to Ho Chi Minh City taking around 13 hours. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are the two most popular places to land in Vietnam, with the former found in the south of the country and the latter in the north. Travelling overland between the two cities is a popular route to take, with plenty to discover along the way.
Escape the hustle and bustle and countless scooters of Ho Chi Minh City and head east towards the coast and Mui Ne, revelling in the beachside environment that you will find. Further up the coast, you will find stunning Nha Trang, which offers everything from cheap backpacker accommodation to high-end luxury.
Continue up the coast to Hoi An, a former major port that will prove an absorbing and atmospheric stop. The historical former Vietnamese capital Hue is up next, before a much longer jump north to renowned Halong Bay, where you'll definitely want to spend some time before jumping back into the city surrounds of Hanoi.
