Kuala Lumpur travel guide

Taking it from the top, quite literally, are the Petronas Twin Towers, standing over 450m tall. Brave the Skydeck almost halfway up and saunter between the huge twin skyscrapers with fantastic views of the cityscape, observing the palm-fringed streets of the melee below.

The petrol heads out there may wish to time their trip to coincide with the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix, which usually takes place around the end of March. Head an hour out of Kuala Lumpur to the Sepang International Circuit for the Sunday showpiece.

Visit Cuba

Visit the bright lights offered at Bukit Bintang, where you can satisfy all of your holiday shopping needs. Luxury goods can be found at the upscale stores, before you retreat from the crowds to a fancy bar for a relaxing cocktail.

For purchases of a quirkier nature, check out the plentiful night markets, and explore the streets which seem to spring surprises around every corner. Head to the Central Market for some artistic fulfilment, take your time to wander around the various stalls and take in the creative atmosphere.

More wandering can be undertaken at the intriguing Batu Caves, set into a limestone hill just 13km outside the city, and home to a fascinating temple complex. Get familiar with some feathered friends amongst the exotic inhabitants of the KL Bird Park; the options are endless.
