Eating and drinking at the Centara Grand Beach Resort is quite a varied affair, with plenty of different cuisines to choose from. There’s the Hagi restaurant with fifty authentic Japanese recipes, including plenty of sushi and sashimi, Spice Island for Thai cuisine, Palm Grove serving international food and a choice of superb bars.

Palm Grove

The Palm Grove serves Western and Thai food from early in the morning until midnight. Casual, but with a trendy feel, you can eat outside here too.

Coast Beach Bar & Grill

Sample the maigc created by Executive Chef Luis Zamora at this beachside, chilled out restaurant. An eclectic mix of New World cuisines and local flavours complemented by exotic cocktails makes for a memorable dining experience.

Zico's

Zico’s Brazilian Bar and Grill serves grilled meat and fish to the tune of live Brazilian music, and has a vibrant bar too. It’s open until 1 in the morning.

Islander

Head for the Islander lobby bar for drinks and a live band, open till midnight.

Dip & Sip

Rather more casual, you can swim up to order your drink at the Dip and Sip pool bar.

Piccolo

The Piccolo pastry and snack shop serves just that, along with coffee and tea all day long.

Zing

The perfect place to grab-and-go coffee, deli snacks and a delicious selection of pastries and ice cream. Choose between indoor seating or dine al fresco.

The Centara Grand Beach Resort has all you need to enjoy the outdoors in the wonderful Thai weather. There are two swimming pools: one for adults and one for the little ones. The latter will also love the playground, and fun activities in the Kids’ Clubs. Camp Safari is for 4 to 9 year-olds, whilst the E-Zone is packed full of video games for children 10 to 17.

There’s more to play for on the two tennis courts, and you can also work up a sweat in the fitness centre and its sauna. Down on the beach is a dive centre to get you beneath the clear waters safely, as well as a whole range of other activities, including sailing.

If you’d like to come back from holiday with a tasty new skill, Thai cooking lessons are available. On a totally restful and rejuvenating note, the resort’s SPA Cenvaree will pamper and restore your body and spirits. Inspired by traditional Thai healing, this is a very special spa journey that has already won an award in 2012 as the ‘Best Luxury Emerging Spa’.

There are ten multi-sensory treatment rooms and a number of traditional ‘Salas’ for relaxing, manicures/pedicures and Thai massages. Local spa specialities include two hours’ cleansing and re-hydrating the body with products made from Samui’s famous coconuts. A hair salon is on hand to keep you looking your very best.

Diners have a real multi-cultural buffet of choices, with cuisines including Brazilian, Japanese, Thai, and Western choices. A trio of bars and lounges give you the chance for indoor or outdoor refreshments.

The Centara Grand Beach Resort hosts both social and business meetings with real style and sophistication, in a lovely tropical setting. There are rooms that can handle up to 160 diners or 250 in a theatre setting, with full high-tech services and back-up. Receptions can be hosted outdoors too, in the warm evening air. Of course, the gorgeous tropical beachside setting is a most romantic one for a wedding. Choose everything from a traditional lustral water ceremony to a reception with all the trimmings, with your choice of theme.

Finally, all the accommodation in the 203 rooms and suites overlooks the sea, and has private balconies, so you can make the most of the natural environment. Destination info

Explore some of the small islands off the coast. Tao consists of a trio of small islands off Ko Tao, all joined by pure white beach. Snorkellers and divers will love Nang Yuan Island, with its rich marine life. Take the daily boat service from Ko Tao.

Shopping in Koh Samui is excellent. There are three main shopping areas - offering everything from souvenirs to Thai silk.

Look out for the strange human-shaped rocks: Hin Ta – Hin Yai. The legend goes that they took the shape of an old couple washed ashore.

Cool off under the falling waters of the Namtok Vibhavadi waterfall in rustic surroundings, popular with socialising locals on the weekends.

Truly unspoilt Thai beauty abounds in the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Maritime Park - 42 separate islands across 102 square kilometres, with the most eye-catching strangely chiseled limestone cliffs.

The resort can organise trips to the Butterfly Gardens, located on the side of a hill at LaemNatien. This enclosed tropical park contains hundreds and hundreds of butterflies, insects, moths, and just for good measure, some beehives. From the hillside observatory platforms, you’ll get breathtaking views of the coast.

Another Thai tourist bargain is getting a suit made cheaply by a local tailor. Also, look out for souvenirs of pearls, beautiful batik print goods, or pewter wares.

The Big Buddha is a huge draw. On Samui’s north coast, this impressive sight is 12 metres tall.

In the know

The Centara Grand Beach Resort in Koh Samui offers a number of ways to make your stay extra special – if you know about them! Here are our insider’s secrets for the hotel:

The top floor rooms have far and away the best ocean views.

The 7/11 supermarket across the road from the resort is good for drinks, snacks and so forth.

Rooms in block 8 have great views of the sea and are nice and quiet.

The Deluxe Pool Suites are great for families with their own courtyard mini-pool. They get less sun though.

To be close to the beach, try rooms in blocks 6, 7 and 8.

The higher the floor, the more private your accommodation.
