Government changes to travel announcement 17/09/21

Following on from the Government’s announcement on Friday 17th Sep to simplify international travel, here is a breakdown of the changes and what that will mean for you.

What’s changed?

From 0400 BST on Monday 4 October the traffic light system will change from the red, amber, green traffic light system to a single red list of countries. More destinations have been removed from the red list and PCR tests will be a thing of the past.

Red list changes

The world is opening up, from Wednesday 22nd Sep Turkey, Pakistan, the Maldives, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Oman, Bangladesh and Kenya will be removed from the red list - removing the need for expensive and arduous hotel quarantine from these destinations.

PCR changes

Any travellers who have been double-jabbed for at least 14 days will no longer need a PCR test before returning to England, they will only need a PCR test on day two of return, with plans to replace this with a lateral flow test in late October, saving you £££s.

For travellers who have not been double-jabbed, in resort pre-departure and tests at home will still apply along with quarantine.

When is this effective from?

These new rules for travel will come into force from 4am on 4th October. Please note, these rules only apply to travel into England. For full details, visit https://www.gov.uk
