Key Holiday Dates for 2017
If you are working on your holiday plans for 2017 with an eye on a cheap holiday, there are some key dates to keep in mind.
The first, if you have kids, or are travelling with children, are the all-important term dates. This year, schools close at Christmas from 18 December and re-open on 5th January 2017. February half-term is another opportunity to get away, from Monday 20th to Friday 24th. Easter in 2017 starts on Wednesday 5th April, and your Easter break can run through until the 18th April.
These dates will also be of interest to those who are able to do their holiday travelling during term-time, usually a good time to pick up a travel bargain as demand drops.

If you are travelling solo and are looking to visit places in Asia and Australia, our northern hemisphere winter will be the time to go. Down-under, that’s when it’s the southern hemisphere’s summer; time for BBQs, beaches and tons of other outdoor fun. If you are going to the Far East, our winter is a great time to be there weather wise, mostly avoiding extreme heat and the dreaded monsoon downpours. Our autumn and winter is also a good time to do some African game watching in places where there is no rain, so it’s easier to find the wildlife at waterholes. In South Africa, the schools (and the workforce) go back by mid-January so you can find yourself with the beach all to yourself, and some great value for money into the bargain.
Travelling with friends to a great city like New York or Las Vegas for a long weekend usually works best (and cheapest) outside of the main summer holiday periods. So, keep your eye out for cheap holiday offers running in spring or autumn. These are the so-called ‘shoulder months’, before and after the busiest times of the year. Airlines, hotels and car hire companies will offer have some great deals to extend their season as much as possible.
In general, whatever time of the year you are heading off, the best way to travel cheaply in 2017
is to be as flexible as possible. Travel at less popular times, on less popular days of the week. Maybe consider flying to a secondary airport too. And, of course, keep watching Netflights.com for cheap holiday deals to make your 2017 holiday a really memorable one.
