Winter Sun Holidays

Keep the tan topped up with these hot winter destinations

Where's hot in winter?

Swap scarves for shorts in these year-round sunny spots

The Indian Ocean

If you're craving a full-on beach holiday in the midst of winter, get yourself to one of the many paradise islands in the Indian Ocean. In Mauritius, the Maldives and Seychelles, the winter months are properly hot at around 30°C, with inviting sea temperatures to escape the humidity. It's an excellent time for diving and snorkelling as well - or just relaxing in the gorgeous resorts. For practically guaranteed dry weather, head to southwest Sri Lanka.

Middle East

As you'd expect, the desert is hot year-round but there is a winter season here - and it's the best time to visit! With temperatures in the mid-twenties, it's hot enough to enjoy the luxurious resorts and beaches, while being comfortable enough to explore the region's fascinating history, especially in Egypt. So it's no surprise that Dubai is one of the most popular winter sun holiday destinations with Abu Dhabi close on its heels. And here's a curveball, head to Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah for heat and luxury for less. Another hotspot in the Middle East is Qatar, you know... famous for the football.

Caribbean

Seeking a tropical holiday in the depths of winter? Set your sights on the Caribbean. It's dry, hot and laid-back - white, palm-fringed beaches are calling. Most of the region has temperatures in the mid to high twenties - though Jamaica, Barbados and Aruba tend to be slightly hotter. Or go loco in Mexico, Cancun is the place for heat and high spirits... literally!

USA

Now the US is massive, but because its so big, there's always somewhere that will be warm all year round! Our fave is Orlando because there is soooooo much to do. Another Florida fave of ours is Miami. Over on the other coast you've got Las Vegas with its entertainment for days! Celeb hotspot California housing Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Australia

Head down under for the peak of the Australia summer. The weather varies by region but you can be sure of one thing: it'll be hot. There's a reason Australian cities are by the coast! January and February is the wet season on the Northern and Eastern coast, so Sydney and Melbourne may experience some rain amidst the high temperatures. The dry weather is over in the South (Adelaide) and West, especially Perth - Australia's sunniest city.

The Canary Islands

You don't need to fly far or spend loads to escape the dreary UK winter. The Canary Islands are pleasantly mild in winter, with temperatures in January and February sitting around 20–22°C and not much rain, especially in southern Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The sea's a bit cool for swimming - thought it's still do-able - but many resorts have heated pools so you can still enjoy a refreshing dip, even in winter. Ahh, lovely.
