Where can we take you?

Melbourne - Food and Drink

A melting pot of cultures and cuisines, Melbourne enjoys some of Australia’s most exciting dining opportunities. From excellent English-style ‘fish-n-chips’ to spicy Indonesian curries, this city offers more opportunities to enjoy interesting, good value food than any other in Australia.

Areas to head for include the Italian family restaurants of Carlton, the Vietnamese street food and cafes of Victoria Street in Richmond, Brunswick and Coburg’s delicious Middle Eastern and Lebanese cafes, Dockside’s grill bars and pasta joints and the beachside bistros of St Kilda - especially around Acland Street.

Little Bourke Street is the heart of Chinatown, where you’ll find authentic and excellent Chinese dim sum and noodle dishes served fast and fresh, while Lonsdale Street is home to the town’s thriving Greek community, and has Greek restaurants well worth seeking out.

The city centre is also home to great vegetarian (in Fitzroy especially) Malay, Thai and - occasionally - Australian restaurants.

Melburnians love their coffee too - head to Lygon Street for Italian roast coffee, or peer down any of the CBD (Central Business District’s) side streets and lanes, to find a neighbourhood coffee joint, complete with fresh pastries and sandwiches for a quick mid-morning pit stop.
