Saint Lucia airport guide
If you fly into Saint Lucia, you’ll be arriving at the island’s Hewanorra International Airport (IATA code UVF), near Vieux Fort Quarter. The island’s only other airport, George F. L. Charles Airport, is much smaller and is used predominantly by turboprop and prop aircrafts.
Saint Lucia’s airport has just a single runway, but it handles half a million passengers a year and serves several major international airlines. Among these are British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Thomas Cook Airlines and several US airlines, such as American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
Saint Lucia airport facilities
Hewanorra International Airport is a small airport but includes all the key facilities most travellers are likely to need. Restaurants and cafés are available on both the land and airside of the terminal, and the airport includes a bank with bureau de change facilities, an ATM and, inside the departures lounge, a selection of duty-free shops. It also includes a pharmacy and an information desk run by the St. Lucia Tourism Board. Currently there are no business or conference facilities at the airport.
Getting to and from Saint Lucia’s airport
Hewanorra International Airport is just 3.7 kilometres from Vieux Fort Quarter. It’s 56 kilometres from the island’s capital, Castries, which is on the other side of the island. Taxis operate from directly outside the arrivals hall or you can use a private shuttle service to get to just about anywhere on the island. Note that taxis aren’t metred, so it’s important to find out and agree on a rate beforehand.
By taxi or shuttle, the trip from Hewanorra Airport to Castries takes about 70 minutes. No public transportation runs directly from the airport. However, public buses en route to Vieux Fort Quarter stop near the airport terminal, on East Coast Road. The trip into Vieux Fort Quarter takes just 10 minutes.
If you’re headed to Castries, you can also choose to take a taxi to the bus terminus in Vieux Fort Quarter, and then take a local bus from there. This is much cheaper (but potentially more tiring) than taking a shuttle direct from the airport.
A number of car rental agencies operate from the airport. They include Alto, Avis, Budget and St. Lucia Car Rental.
Saint Lucia airport parking
Hewanorra International Airport includes a parking area with a total of 250 bays. Currently the rate for short-term parking is $3.00 for the first hour, followed by $2.00 per hour, up to a total of five hours. Longer-term daily rates are also available.
