Getting around the airports

After clearing immigration upon arrival, travellers can take advantage of the two duty free shops located in the baggage reclaim hall. These shops offer travellers a variety of items, including makeup, perfume, tobacco and alcohol, as well as Mauritian artisanal products. For your currency needs, a bureau de change and other banking services are located on the ground floor. The airport also has two A.T.M.s. Information desks are also available in the Tour Operators Halls should you need assistance.

Getting to the cities from airports

Getting from the airport to your accommodations will be easy. There are plenty of transportation options available for those travelling solo or without a travel agent’s help, including a wide selection of approved taxi services and three bus services that can take you around the island. If you would prefer a car hire, several companies have kiosks at the airport for your convenience.

Don’t forget before you fly

To enter Mauritius on a 60-day tourist visa, travellers need to meet several requirements. Visitors must have a valid return ticket, enough money to cover their stay and a correctly completed immigration form, which will be distributed on the airplane before arrival. The local currency is the Mauritian rupee. Exchanging money before you arrive is not recommended, as the exchange rate is very poor. The airport has several currency exchange booths available. Euros and United States dollars are not widely accepted on the island. Due to the poor exchange rate, they hold little value to the average Mauritian worker.
