Last Minute USA Holidays

The fourth biggest country on earth, stretching between two oceans, with huge variations in everything from climate to culture, America is a holiday dream all-year-round.

So, if you suddenly find yourself with some time on your hands and the need to grab a quick, last-minute holiday, the USA will deliver.

Callout Background Image

If it’s approaching Christmas, it’s time for New York, New York. The city that never sleeps is an absolute shopper’s paradise, with its iconic department stores, myriad of designer boutiques and lots of highly-individual outlets. That’s Christmas shopping sorted!

Summer’s hot in Orlando, with plenty of sunshine to enjoy the theme parks, water worlds, golf, beaches and other great outdoor activities.

Autumn (or ‘Fall’ as they call it in the US of A) is stunningly beautiful on the east cost, with the famous New England display of trees turning from green to an array of reds, bronzes, browns and yellows.

Winter is snow time, and that means skiing, something that places like Aspen, Vail and Lake Tahoe do brilliantly. Or, you might want to venture north of the border and try the great Canadian ski resorts such as Whistler or Banff.

Great Last Minute USA Deals!

If you are heading Stateside at the last moment, it pays to have some preparation done in advance. Yes, you need travel insurance and a passport with at least six months left, but you’ll also need something else.

These days you’ll have to apply online under the ESTA system for authorisation to visit the States. For countries under the Visa Waiver Program (the UK is one), you will get permission to stay for up to 90 days. You must apply online for this before you travel, the recommendation is at least 72 hours prior to heading for the airport.

It costs $14 per application and has to be renewed every two years. Oh, and don’t use any other site than the official US Government website, or you might get scammed and ripped-off.

Finally, if you are travelling with kids, they have to have their own passport and be applied for under the ESTA system too.

Experienced long-haul travellers usually think about the dreaded return to normal life when their last-minute break is over. Some make sure they clean the house before they go so it’s all neat and tidy when they come back. And lay in enough non-perishable bits and pieces to eat, so you can have a meal without dragging yourself around the shops.

If you are thinking of a last-minute trip to the USA, keep an eye on the Netflights.com website for the latest long-haul low-cost deals. That spur-of-the-moment decision to head across the Atlantic might be cheaper than you think.
