San Francisco - Airport Guide

San Francisco Airport (SFO) has three domestic terminals, one international terminal and offers all manner of excellent ground transportation options to whisk you from the terminal to the city. The airport is just 20 kilometres south of downtown, on the coast of San Francisco Bay.

San Francisco airport has a wide variety of facilities and attractions to keep you busy whilst waiting for your flight. There’s a selection of dining options to choose from; relax with an Irish coffee at Buena Vista Café; enjoy fine dining at Cat Cora or Tyler Florence; sample artisanal foods at the Napa Farms Market; or, if you’re still trying to take in every last bit of this vibrant city, why not try San Francisco’s famous sourdough bread from Boudin’s Bakery.

Check out the various art exhibits scattered around the airport or spend the last of your dollars shopping at the numerous gift shops, bookstores and luxury boutiques. If you’re looking for something a little bit more relaxing, there are spa services and yoga rooms available. And, to keep the kids entertained, head over to the interactive flight deck or the kids’ spot.

Shared-ride vans provide a good value alternative to a taxi ride into the city. Van service is available on a walk-up basis at the Roadway Centre Island, on the Departures/Ticketing level of each terminal. You'll find fares range from around $12 to $20 depending on the number of passengers using the service, and how many stops the van has to make. However, passengers are advised to make reservations for service after 11:00 p.m.

Taxis are available outside each terminal's Arrivals area. Journey time to/from downtown San Francisco is around 25-30 minutes depending on traffic. Expect to pay around $40. Look for the taxi booking staff, uniformed, by the ranks. They'll take your details and arrange your booking.

A $2.00 exit surcharge is included in all San Francisco taxicab meter fares for rides originating from San Francisco International Airport.
