Visit Cyprus

Landing in Paphos will see you on the doorstep of a bustling town full of tourism, and varying ways to while away those precious holiday hours. Hotels stretch along the waterfront with plenty to choose from between Rikkos Beach and the Tombs of the Kings, and further north beyond.

The necropolis is an intriguing place to visit, with tombs carved into solid rock dating back to the 4th century BC. Despite the name, no royalty is actually buried there, but the moniker came from the grandeur of the burial site, and deservedly so, which now provides a fascinating spot for exploration to complement those relaxing hours on the beach.

The tombs are part of the wider Kato Paphos Archaeological Park, a World Heritage site that also includes attractions such as the Ancient Odeon, the Asklepieion, and the ancient Byzantine castle Saranta Kolones; meaning Forty Columns.

If you’re all educated out then clear your head on one of Cyprus’ many boat tours, or try your hand at scuba diving over at Protaras on the east coast. Adventure sports and water sports are all the rage, with the ambient sea temperatures ideal for the parasailing, jet skiing, water skiing and even water walking on offer.

Over in busy Nicosia in the centre of the island, enjoy some leisure time like the ancient locals used to, at the Omeriye Hamam Turkish baths. Recently reopened last year in the stunning 14th century former Augustinian church of St. Mary, should see you ready for a serious dose of meze for dinner.
