McCarran International Airport

The McCarran International Airport is the main commercial airport serving Las Vegas. The airport is situated roughly two miles from the Las Vegas Strip (where your hotel is probably located) and five miles south of Downtown.

Getting around the airport

A courtesy shuttle service is provided for transportation between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Service is offered every 12-15 minutes. Shuttles are identified by the blue and white McCarran logo. Each terminal has its own parking garage, ticket and check-in area, baggage claim, shopping and restaurants. The terminals are not linked, so know beforehand which terminal your airline will use.

Getting to the city from McCarran International Airport

There are a number of transportation choices from the airport. Taxi from the airport for around 20€. Group private shuttle buses that leave from Terminals 1 and 3 take between 30 and 50 minutes to reach Las Vegas Strip and can cost around 7$, depending on which company you choose and how many people there are. You can also take a public bus (RTC transit) service, which operates 24/7. Popular spots to get off: Downtown Las Vegas, Tropicana Avenue, Las Vegas Boulevard and Spring Mountain, all located near hotels and main tourist sights. As an alternative, car hires are also available.

Not to forget before the flight

The majority of travellers with a British passport can apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) via the Visa Waiver Programme. This permits you to travel to the United States for up to 90 days. Be sure to have a valid photo ID (issued by a government authority) and your boarding pass to enter the security checkpoint. Inform yourself of exchange rates and acquire some American dollars, the currency in Las Vegas. It’s advisable to go to a bank or ATM in the city, as the conversion rates at airports can be astronomical.
