Holidays in Kenya

If you're after something unique and memorable for your next trip abroad, check out Kenya holidays for a step out of the ordinary. National parks and wildlife galore, this beautiful African country is sure to dazzle lovers of the great outdoors.

Be prepared to give those walking boots a good once over, dig out the khaki and camo, and get stuck into the incredible safari and trekking opportunities. Nairobi National Park offers the most convenient location, situated just a 10 minute drive from the centre of the country’s capital. Quite incredibly, there’s just a fence to separate the lion, rhino, giraffe, cheetah et al from sauntering downtown at the peak of rush hour traffic.

To the north of Kenya you’ll find the tranquil Samburu National Reserve, great for tracking big cats, in addition to elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodile in the Uaso Nyiro River. If you'd like to explore on your own then Hell’s Gate National Park could be a shout, as it’s permitted to wander here without a guide, marvelling at the dramatic surroundings that rise and fall around you. Thanks to its size, Tsavo National Park will also afford you some privacy if that’s what you wish.

Check out the Masai Mara National Reserve to witness the Great Migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from July to October of each year, or Amboseli National Park near to the Tanzanian border for epic views of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Meanwhile, for the bird lovers out there, Lake Nakuru has been known to attract over a million flamingos at once, resulting in an incredible spectacle.

It doesn't all have to be about wildlife in Kenya though, head to Malindi to enjoy the sumptuous Indian Ocean coastline, surfing, fishing and snorkelling coral reefs to your heart’s content. For something a little more off the beaten track, Lamu Island has resisted the overloading of tourism, and presents a relaxing opportunity to have a quiet break from it all.
