Singapore
Okay, we know ‘a city of contrasts’ is well over-used but…Singapore really is a city of contrasts! An historical fishing town turned colonial outpost turned bustling financial hub, Singapore is where you’ll find temples brushing right up against high rises, as well as a right old mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and English influences. Get ready to marvel at the temples in Chinatown, become lost in the narrow streets of Little India, or find world-class shopping on Orchard Road. Singapore is pretty small, but definitely mighty!

How to land a low priced flight to Singapore

booking advice, visa information and airports and airlines tips

When is the cheapest time to go to Singapore?

Just north of the equator, Singapore is warm, warm, warm all year round but its tropical climate means it doesn’t have seasons in the traditional sense. That works out well for you, because it means jetting off to Singapore won’t break the bank - there's bargains to be had at multiple points throughout the year! But the cheapest time? That'll be when the tropical showers of the North Monsoon arrive, in November. And thanks to those gorgeous (but sometimes scorching!) summer temps that Singapore enjoys, flying out in July and August is also cheaper than during the more temperate, drier months. You'll defo want to avoid flying from mid-December to February if you want a proper belter of a deal, as this coincides with the Lunar New Year - always a mega popular time in Singapore!

When is the best time to book to fly to Singapore?

We like to think of Singapore as a bit of an all-rounder – by which we mean you can pretty much go at any point of the year! It has a pretty stable climate, but if you’re after the very best time to go? We’d have to say from December to June, especially from around February to April – that’s when Singapore has its least amount of rain, lower humidity, and (most importantly) the most sunshine. This obviously makes it a pretty popular period with tourists, so if you want to head out there when it’s quieter, you’ll have to push it back a bit and go from around July to November instead.

Which UK airports offer flights to Singapore?

If you want a direct flight to Singapore, you'll need to fly from London Heathrow with either Singapore Airlines, British Airways or Qantas. But you can also jet off from regional airports, like London Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow, with Air France, British Airways, KLM, and Lufthansa, amongst others – but you’ll have to factor in a layover!

How long is the flight from the UK to Singapore?

Better brace yourself, flights to Singapore are a little on the long side! You’re looking at around 13 hours in the air. This stretch will be broken up by a layover though, usually in Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Kuala Lumpur. But if you don’t fancy the faff of a layover, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Qantas will get you there direct from London Heathrow - but remember, it'll leave with you less to spend on Orchard Road!

Flying to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)

One of Asia’s largest airports, Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is 11 miles northeast of Marina Bay. It has four modern terminal buildings arranged in a U-shape and is an international hub for Singapore Airlines.

Getting in to the city from the airport

When you land, you'll be about 19km from centre of the city. Hop in a cab for 15 mins or take the train directly from the airport, around 30 mins. Public transport is always cheaper!

Why visit Singapore?

We told you it was a city of contrasts, and we bloomin’ meant it! You’re gonna get a bit of everything here.

Take in a bit of history

You’ll find a lot of history related to WW2 here, from memorials (the Kranji War Memorial is the most famous and honours those who died during the conflict – spend some time amongst the thousands of serene, white gravestones) to the Battle Box, originally a bomb-proof bunker built to protect the British Headquarters of Malaya Command and now a 26 room underground museum. But WW2 is only a part of Singapore’s past! For a proper fascinating overview of the whole history of Singapore all in one place, head to the National Museum – it covers everything, from fashion to architecture.

Throw in some stunning religious sites

The original Sultan Mosque, built way back in 1824, was the biggest in Singapore. The one you see today is actually the second mosque built on the same site, in 1932. When it was rebuilt they included the iridescent black bases of soy sauce bottles as part of the design, donated by the poorer citizens of the city in a move meant to allow Muslims from all walks of life a chance to contribute to this historically, and religiously, significant site.

And add just a dash (okay, maybe a bit more than a dash!) of high tech hijinks

Obvs, the first thing we’re going to tell you to get on down to is the Marina Bay area. Here you’ll find Marina Bay Sands – you know, that really cool hotel, three towers, looks like there’s a ship sitting on top of it? Yep, that’s the one! Even if you’re not staying there, you can still head up to one of the greatest spots in Singapore, the SkyPark Observation Deck. A whopping 56 storeys up, you’ll get prime views of the city – and all of the stuff you can get up to down below! The Gardens by the Bay are like some kind of dreamy, Eden-inspired, wonderland. Easily our favourite place in Singapore! Wander through the misty veils of the Cloud Forest, home to one of the world’s tallest indoor waterfalls, then head to Floral Fantasy – it’s like Santa’s toyshop, but for flowers! And to wrap it all up? It’s gotta be the Supertree canopy, suspended walkways that’ll take you right through the whole of Gardens by the Bay – talk about postcard-perfect views. Your Insta grid will be glowing!

Don’t forget before you fly

UK passport holders do not require a visa to enter Singapore for visits of up to 90 days for tourism, business meetings or social visits. However, remember that your passport needs to be valid for a minimum of six months from your date of entry! Easy to forget, that one. Go and have a look now! Oh, and you will need to fill out an SG Arrival Card up to three days before you arrive – it’s online form that requires your travel details and a health declaration. Other than that, you’re good to go!
