Houston, I think we’re going to love you

Book your Houston flights if you want to visit the many quality museums. Check out the Children’s Museum, or the Museum of Natural Science or even the National Museum of Funeral History for something a little more off-beat. A trip to the Space Centre is a must: take a look inside a space shuttle, see the actual rockets from the 60s and 70s, and learn a little science to boot.">

Houston loves art

Unexpectedly perhaps, Houston is also home to a thriving cultural scene, which means a lot of art, and a lot of theatre. From the masterpiece-filled Houston Museum of Fine Arts, to the eclectic and ancient Menil Collection, or the bizarre Beer Can House, Houston has pretty much every area covered.

Barbecue, anyone?

Having found your cheap flights to Houston the rest of your holiday budget is likely to be directed at food! Decide whether their claim to making the best barbecue is justified by testing out the Texan barbecue on offer from the many no-frills take-outs. If you fancy some spice, seek out a Tex-Mex and enjoy the Mexican influence. Your taste buds will thank you!

When to go

There is little seasonal fluctuation in the price of Houston flights, although you may be able to find great last-minute flights in the summer as this is the time that Houston residents are most likely to head elsewhere as temperatures climb.

Houston is warm throughout the year, and the summers can be very hot with temperatures averaging over 30 degrees Celsius. The more temperate yet still warm autumn or spring months get our vote for the best weather to holiday in. However, with around 204 days of sunshine per year, you can look out for last-minute flights at any time of the year and gloat about your shorts to your friends back home.
To enjoy the city during festival time, book your return flights in May to coincide with the annual Dragon Boat Racing festival. Admission is free and there is plenty of entertainment going on throughout the city in 2024 / 2025.

Airports and airlines

When you are searching for direct flights be flexible with your dates if you can, as this is likely to ensure you achieve the best price. You can also switch your search terms to include more or less stopovers; sometimes booking indirect flights can save you money.

Houston Hobby Airport (HOU)

Houston Hobby Airport is one of two Airports serving Houston. Hobby Airport is ideally located just seven miles out of downtown Houston. Its focus is domestic flights with Southwest Airlines and Delta airlines. You can book direct flights to Houston Hobby airport from the UK with Virgin Atlantic. Or break-up your journey and look at flights with multiple stopovers – this can mean a dramatic reduction in price. View flights to Houston Hobby Airport (HOU).

Getting around the airport

As Houston only has one terminal, getting around it is very easy. It is newly built and spacious and (it will come as no surprise) full of art. The volunteer airport ambassadors are full of helpful information and can point you in the right direction. They are easy to spot with their red shirts and can be found throughout the airport.

Getting to the city from the airport

Car is king in Houston, and car rentals are easily found from the terminal building. However alternative public transport into the city is also readily available. Try hopping on the bus, after you have hopped off your flight. Courtesy vans which are operated by many hotels and motels often come to collect visitors from the airport. Alternatively, take the SuperShuttle, a shared-ride service which works out much cheaper than a taxi.

Don't forget before you fly

Before your return flights to Houston, be sure that you have applied for an ESTA, so that you can leave the airport and see some sights! Fill in the form online in good time before your flights. We suggest a minimum of three days. Once your application has been approved, it remains valid for two years.
