Best time to book your flight to Miami?

Everybody wants to grab a bargain on flights, especially when they can end up being the most expensive part of your jollies! How long is the flight from London to Miami?

So, depending on where you’re flying from, there'll be some differences in flight time - a direct flight should generally take around nine hours. If you’ve taken the option to fly with a stopover, which may make the flight cheaper, then you'll naturally be extending the journey time (or think of it is another place to explore!). If you go down this route, you can expect to be in the air for potentially another 10 hours. But, hey! You'll get to see more. It's all about the journey, right?

Flying to Miami Airport (MIA)

As the largest gateway between the US and Latin America, as well as the Caribbean, Miami Airport is South Florida's main airport for long-haul international flights. It’s also a hub for the South-eastern United States, with outbound flights carrying both cargo and passengers leaving its grounds for the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. As such, it is the country’s busiest gateway for international passengers.

Which airlines fly from the UK to Miami?

Direct flights to Miami from the UK are operated by American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and British Airways. There's plenty of other airlines that fly to Miami International from the UK, of course, but your flight will include a stopover en-route. Oh, and it's important to note that whilst you can find flights to Miami from all the airports listed above, you can only fly direct to Miami from London Heathrow.

Getting around Miami Airport

You're in luck, because Miami Airport is definitely designed with its passengers in mind. Despite its size, and the many tens of thousands of travellers who may pass through it on any given day, its inverted U-shape means it’s simple to get around its three terminals.

On Level 3 of the airport grounds, passengers can find a moving walkway that offers a fun and speedy option for them to walk between each terminal. Even more speedy, however, is the Skytrain. Flitting across the concourse’s four stations, the sleek airport metro-style system is a very handy way to easily travel from terminal to terminal.

Getting to the city from the airport

With Miami Airport’s multitude of transport link options, it’s never been easier to get to the city. The easiest — and, our favourite word, the cheapest — option is the MIA Mover. An automated train system, this neat ride will take you from the airport all the way downtown. Simply hop on the MIA Mover to the Miami Intermodal Center, and from there you can take the Metrorail Orange Line all the way downtown for just $2.25 per person.

If you’re looking for a more direct mode of transport though, you can always hail a cab or call an Uber, which will pick you up straight from the airport. And if you’re keen to cruise around the city in your own wheels, then it's easy to hire a car.

Things to do in Miami

Jaw-dropping beaches with miles of inviting sands. Tons of theme parks for the kids. Nightlife to take your breath away. And it's all wrapped up in that classic U.S of A charm.

Sun, sea and sand, sand, sand

If there’s one thing Florida’s known for, it’s a huge choice of enormous, sandy beaches. Whether you’re looking for palm-lined idyls or lively, sociable beach and bar spots, there’s something for every kind of sun worshipper. Just don’t forget the factor 30!

Adventures for all ages

While wider Florida boasts the likes of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, you don’t have to travel far to find thrills and spills that will have the whole family yelping with joy. With such beautiful weather, where better to cool off than a water park like Grapeland? And with the likes of Jungle Island and Dezerland Action Park also on offer, you’ll never be stumped for a day of pure family fun in Miami.

Unforgettable nightlife

Miami’s nightlife has long been the envy of cities across the States. Its winning combination of beachside bars, super clubs and hotel pool parties make it the perfect place to let your hair down and get a little loose. Welcoming the biggest DJs and pop stars from around the world, a night out in Miami never disappoints.

Don't forget before you fly

So, you’re flying to Miami? What do you need to remember? First and foremost, to get past immigration at Miami Airport as a UK resident you’ll need to present a visa or an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) waiver, along with your valid passport.

Other than that, remember that Florida can get hot, hot, hot during the high season — so do your research on temperatures before packing your suitcase. And hey, if you’re looking for a night out or two, remember that a lot of the bars and clubs have dress codes — so the flip-flops might not cut it!
