Brazil guide

A visit to Rio de Janeiro will likely be the start or end of your holiday in Brazil, and what better place could you ask to either set the tone, or leave a lasting final impression, of such a beautiful country.

The harbour of Rio is one of the natural wonders of the world, and with good reason. The plunging hills collide with the huge sandy beaches that are a staple of life in this vibrant city. Grab a ball and go for a kick about, maybe you'll be lucky enough to get invited to play some beach football with the locals!

The Christ the Redeemer statue is an awe-inspiring monument that towers above the city, the pinnacle of the beautiful religious architecture that seems to punctuate each building, doorway and window frame. You will never forget the first time you catch sight of the statue, and it only becomes more impressive as you take a trip up Corcovado mountain to get up close to the 30 metre wonder of the world. Take a sunset trip up Sugar Loaf mountain via the cable car rides, and look down upon the majesty of that stunning harbour.

Get out of the city and head south towards Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande, literally translated as ‘big island’. A boat will whisk you across to an incredible haven that is largely undeveloped and brimming with natural beauty. Take a boat around the island for some pristine snorkelling spots, and visit the immaculate Lopes Mendes, hire a surf board, and work up an appetite before heading back to Abraão for some freshly caught seafood.
