    Brazil - Airport Guide

Brazil has one of the largest internal air networks in the world, with air services operating between all major cities. Flying is a good option for travellers with limited time because distances between many popular attractions are large.

Tourists generally enter Brazil via one of two main international airports - São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport or Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport. São Paulo Guarulhos is the larger of the two. Both airports handle flights to all regions of the country, as well as flights within South America and internationally.

Popular airlines that provide domestic flights are Gol Transportes Aereos and TAM Airlines.

It’s advisable to book flights far in advance if you’ll be travelling during any major holiday or during Carnival.

    São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport

São Paulo Guarulhos shares its premises with the São Paulo Air Force and the national Brazilian Air Force. It has two main terminals. These are connected and passengers can travel between them on foot.

São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport facilities

Airport facilities at São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport include:

    • Tourist information desks on both terminal levels.
    • Currency exchange desks on both levels and plenty of ATMs.
    • Three VIP lounges on different levels.
    • A wide range of restaurants, cafés and bars.
    • Souvenir shops, duty-free shops and a bookstore.
    • Free internet access..

Getting to and from São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport

Taxis are readily available outside the airport terminals, and many hotels offer pre-arranged shuttle services. No train line connects to the airport, but a popular bus route covers the 25 kilometres between the airport and central São Paulo. In addition, public buses are available to various destinations across the city, and to Congonhas Airport. A number of car rental agencies operate from the airport, and both long and short-term parking are available at a fee.

Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport

Commonly called Galeão International Airport, Rio de Janeiro's airport is the second busiest in Brazil. The airport has two terminals, recently renovated in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport facilities

Terminal 1 includes three separate concourses, and Terminal 2 has two concourses handling passenger flights.

    Airport facilities include:
    • Tourist information desks in both terminals.
    • Currency exchange desks in both terminals and plenty of ATMs.
    • Three VIP lounges – one in Terminal 1, and two in Terminal 2.
    • A post office.
    • A wide range of restaurants, cafés and bars.
    • Souvenir shops, duty-free shops and a bookstore.
    • Free Wi-Fi throughout the airport.

Getting to and from Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport
