When is the Cheapest Time to Fly to Dundee?

If you’re looking for cheap flights to Dundee, then it’s best to visit during the quietest times of year. Much like the rest of the country, few tourists can be found in Dundee during the winter months when the temperatures begin to drop, and rainfall increases. Furthermore, there’s nothing quite like sitting by the fire with a warm drink after a day exploring the glorious Scottish countryside.

When is the Best Time to Book your Flight to Dundee?

Book your return flights to Dundee two to three months before departure if you want to find the best prices, although last-minute flights are often on offer if you can be flexible with your travel times and dates. If you’re available in the last week of August and the first week of September, then be sure to check out one of the city’s biggest events, the Dundee Flower and Food Festival.

Flying to Dundee Airport (DND)

Dundee Airport (DND) is the principal airport serving the city of Dundee, located on the North Sea coastline of Scotland. Approximately 60 kilometres north-east of Edinburgh and 100 kilometres south-west of Aberdeen, the airport caters to a large area of central Scotland, including the city of Perth to the west. A key airport for serious and casual golfers alike, Dundee is the closest travel hub to top golf courses at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles.
Due to the short length of the runway, the airport can only accept smaller aircrafts, which restricts the number of airlines that can take off and land there. Currently, the only return flight to DND is Loganair’s London Stansted service. Although this is the only direct flight at present, the city is easily reachable by connecting via Stansted from destinations throughout Europe, including Barcelona, Rome and Lisbon.

On Arrival and Getting Around the Airport

As is fitting for its quiet flight schedule, DND is a small, single-terminal airport with a handful of amenities as well as places to shop, eat and relax. The Fresh-Jet Cafe, located within the terminal building, sells a good variety of sandwiches, salads, cakes and pastries in addition to magazines, newspapers and local souvenirs. Alcoholic beverages, such as wine and spirits, can also be purchased. Dundee Airport also has an information desk and provides access to free Wi-Fi throughout the airport.

Getting to the City from Dundee Airport (DND)

Dundee Airport is situated on the coast of the Firth of Tay, just three kilometres south of central Dundee. The short distance from the city means that it’s very inexpensive and exceptionally quick to travel to and from the airport after your Dundee flights. Located inside the passenger terminal are several car hire companies if you’d prefer access to your own vehicle while visiting. If not, a taxi rank with metered taxis is also outside. As DND isn’t exceptionally busy, it is recommended that you book a taxi before your Dundee flights to avoid waiting, but it’s not necessary by any means.

Why Visit Dundee?

The fourth largest and second most densely populated city in Scotland, Dundee is a destination simply buzzing with activity and the possibility of adventure. Known for its many contributions to the biomedical and technological fields, Dundee has been recognised as the United Kingdom’s (UK) first UNESCO City of Design. After many years of industrial decline in the traditional spheres, the city has been slowly working to reinvigorate its cultural significance and reinvent its image. Spending millions, the region is hard at work breathing life back into the Waterfront and opening Dundee’s own Victoria and Albert Museum, a sister to the original one in central London.
Despite concentrating on modernising many of its main attractions, it would be a mistake to visit without taking the time to appreciate the area’s rich history and fantastic collection of monuments to past eras. While strolling through the old city streets, be sure to stop by the oldest building in Dundee, St. Mary’s Tower, which dates back to the fifteenth century. Also on your list should be the HMS Frigate Unicorn and Mains Castle, a fascinating medieval structure that now serves as a popular wedding destination.
