Flying to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK)

Marrakech Menara Airport is located about three miles (five kilometres) from the city’s main square, Jemaa el-Fnaa; it will take about 15 to 20 minutes to reach by car. The airport serves around four million passengers annually and receives direct flights from the United Kingdom daily. On Arrival and Getting Around the Airport

Marrakesh Menara Airport has two passenger terminals that are both located within one large building. When leaving Marrakech, make sure to exchange your dirhams before you pass through security as only a few shops will accept them in the secured part of the airport. You can exchange 1,000 dirham notes, but you’ll often get a poor exchange rate. In the departure lounge, you will find cafes and restaurants, duty-free and souvenir shops and a smoking area.

Getting to the City Marrakesh Menara Airport RAK

It’s a good idea to agree on your fare before you jump in a taxi. Public buses to the city centre depart from outside the arrivals hall at Terminal 2. Bus 19, the Airport Express, offers free return trips if used within two weeks of your purchase date and will stop anywhere on route to Djemaa El Fna. It departs every 30 minutes between 7am and 9:30pm. Bus 11 doesn’t have space for large suitcases or luggage, but it is the cheapest option. It also connects to the long-distance bus stations at both Bab Doukkala and Djemaa El Fna.

Why visit Marrakech?

Nestled at the foot of the Atlas Mountains like a glowing rose gem stone, the ‘Red City’ is a riot of colours and sounds. Its bustling medieval Medina is a fascinating world filled with souks - legendary markets or bazaars –, where snake charmers, musicians and acrobats perform between the shops and stalls selling everything from spices and sweets to baskets and sandals. Donkeys and mopeds share the labyrinthine cobbled lanes within the ancient powder-pink ramparts.
Marrakech wows visitors with its beautiful mosques and Islamic architecture, none more so than the Ali Ben Youssef Medersa and the Koutoubia minaret. Bahia Palace and the Dar Si Said should be on the itinerary for anyone interested in North African art and design. The vast Djemaa El Fna square is one of the best spots for people-watching over a mint tea, while the Jardin Majorelle, gifted to the city by one-time resident Yves Saint Laurent, is a green oasis in the chaos of an urban city.

Don't Forget Before you Fly

A visa is not required for stays up to three months for European passport holders. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months after your date of entry. Arrivals from the UK will need to complete an embarkation card before getting to the passport control desk. These may be handed out during your flight or can be found near the arrivals entrance. Tip: bring your own pen as there’s often a shortage. If possible, exchange some of your money into Moroccan dirhams before your arrival.
